Set-up Procedure for secureFTP (sFTP) and Sub FTP on FileZilla

Follow the steps below to set-up secureFTP (sFTP) on FileZilla

  1. Download the FTP application ‘FileZilla’ from ‘https://filezilla-project.org//download.php’.
  2. Install the application in your local host.
  3. Run the application by double-clicking the icon.
  4. When FileZilla opens enter your FTP details like ‘Host’, ‘User’ and ‘Password’.
  5. Since you want to connect through sFTP, enter in port “22” as the ‘Port’.
  6. Click on the ‘Logon Type’ drop-down menu and choose “Normal”. When you are ready to try connecting, click Connect.
  7. Since you are using sFTP for the first time, you will get an ‘Unknown host key’ authentication message.
  8. You can check ‘Always trust this host, add this key to the cache’ and click OK.
  9. Now FileZilla will connect you to the web server and you can upload and download web files by using sFTP.

Follow the steps below to use Sub-domain FTP with FileZilla.

  1. Download the FTP application ‘FileZilla’ from ‘https://filezilla-project.org//download.php’.
  2. Open FileZilla in your local system.
  3. Enter your sub domain FTP details like ‘Host’, ‘User’ and ‘Password’.
  4. Select ‘FTP – File Transfer Protocol’ from the ‘Protocol’ drop-down list.
  5. Select ‘Require explicit FTP over TLS’ from the ‘Encryption’ drop-down list.
  6. Click on the ‘Logon Type’ drop-down menu and choose “Normal”. When you are ready to try connecting, click Connect.
  7. Since you are using ‘Require explicit FTP over TLS’ for the first time, you will get an ‘Unknown certificate’ authentication message.
  8. You can check ‘Always trust certificate in future sessions’ and click OK.
  9. Now FileZilla will connect you to the web server and you can upload and download web files by using FTP.
